Our Mission
From our statement of purpose, December 30th 2025:
Since the dissolution of the Marysville Globe in 2020, the city of Marysville has been bereft of its own newspaper. Due to this, it is the largest city in the state to lack its own independent news media. Seeing this injustice, the founders of the Voice of the Mountain seek to rectify this by helping foster the community of our great city, one of the fastest growing cities in the state, which has languished in the past five years. The people of this city have been kept in the dark for years about the corruption within the city hall, as well as the encroachment of authoritarianism in the everyday life of the average citizen.
Nepotism, homelessness, unchecked surveillance, and waste of your hard-earned tax dollars are just a few mere examples of the corruption which has taken hold over Marysville in the past two decades. The Voice of the Mountain does not want the average Marysvillian to view themselves as a “rural backwater” but as a unique city with a culture and way of life that distinguishes itself as more than just a “Seattle suburb” as some may call it.
Through our weekly publications, we will endeavor to have the most rigorous reporting standards in the Puget Sound, exposing corruption whenever it rears its head. While it is necessary to see the ugly side of our city, we will also talk at length about the events that many miss out on due to not knowing their own neighbors, the simple joys of life that many of our citizens are not even aware of. Furthermore, we will attempt to help those less fortunate than us, doing what the state, county, and city has refused to do, despite having the ability.
We ask only two things of our readers: Firstly, that you think critically of what you read, even of our own publication, and that you educate yourself on your own community. Secondly, that you share this publication freely with your friends and neighbors, and talk to them once in a while, become closer to those around you and fight for a better future, for you, yours, and Marysville.
